All Candidates for Lakewood City Council Running Unopposed: Good or Bad?
I'm torn about how to feel about three City Council Races where all candidates are unopposed: On the one hand, cities really benefit from vigorous elections where the candidates tell the truth and share different views about values and tactics. In fact, that's what democracy is built on.
But here in 2011, Don Anderson, Marie Barth and Paul Bocchi embody integrity and strong values for a better community. Don, Marie and Paul are also great people. The 2012 council will be strong & smart. I've seen all the councils, even served on a couple, and say pretty surely that it's probably going to be the strongest council ever in terms of breadth and the versatility of what each person brings to the dais. And that's good because the problems and challenges keep coming even as the world seems to be rooting into a recession.
So let's get to the question everyone wants to know: Don, Marie and Paul, does this mean we get a break on seeing all those yard signs? Or you going to put them up for candidate/team/city spirit?
